I know this question has always been in the back of your head somewhere. Well, years before even I had no clue about this trendy product called-toner. But now I do and would love to share all the hype behind the use of toners.

So, let’s delve straight into it.

What is a Toner?

In simple terms, Toner is a skin product that mainly constitutes water. Hence, it is primarily used for hydration.

Going back a few years, toners weren’t appreciated. Not many people used them and those who used them weren’t satisfied.

Primarily, toners work just like cleansers and were used to clear out all the debris that cleansers left behind. Not to mention, old toners were harsh on the skin and had alcohol in them.

Higher contents of alcohol in toners made skin dry and irritating. Consequently, fewer people preferred it.

But today, most companies produce organically and hence the demand has increased.

Also, the modern toners aren’t just functioning as dirt and oil removers but help the skin in its nourishment and renewal.

Now, you see why they are popular, eh?

But,

Is toner even necessary?

If I were you, I’d skip. But I am not the same lazy girl anymore. Not when it comes to my skin, anymore!

I am a conscious consumer and research everything that I buy especially skincare products.

However, the answer to this simple question isn’t easy because it depends upon your skin type, ingredients of the toner, etc.

More importantly, to know better you have to try and test them out. It is a make-or-break kind of product.

With that said, I am listing out some benefits that you may wanna check out before making a rational decision.

Benefits of applying a toner:

From where I come from, I have seen people using toners for two reasons.

  1. As a make-up setter spray.
  2. As a cleanser.

It functions well in both cases.

It acts as dirt, makeup, bacteria and oil remover. And also enhances the penetration of other skincare products.
